My Project

The concept of our senior project is to start the time with a medical internship and volunteer at Sheltering Arms for one week. Then we plan to travel to Belize and stay in an orphanage where we will be working with A Broader view, a volunteering company. The idea of our project will meet the ideals presented in the philosophy statement because this is an opportunity that cannot be completed during a normal school day. My partner and myself, Claire Morris, have been at Lovett since Kindergarten and Pre-K and we feel that this experience will change our lives. We will be able to see if the medical field is suitable for us as well as see a different part of the world and the children that are a part of it. We will also hopefully to be able learn a few tips from our pediatric oncology internship and our volunteer experience at Sheltering Arms and use those tools as we embark on our journey to Belize. After Belize we will intern at Grady hospital.
We will need to complete a few tasks to prepare ourselves for this project. For the medical internship of the project, we will research in depth aspects of the medical field. We will find educational websites on line as well as talk to some people that we know who are in the field. We will also continue to babysit to prepare us for the Belize portion of the project. Even though I babysit quite often it is important for me to continue to do this so I can be ready for the interactions with children at the orphanage. We will also do some research on the country of Belize. Cultural components of the country, everyday life, and the history of Belize will be researched to better our understanding of the country as a whole.
At the end of the project, we plan to produce a short video of our experiences. The video will include photos of the trip. We want the video to look as professional as possible. When people watch our video we want people to feel like they were on the trip with us, therefore, we will have impeccable footage from our project.
We plan on showing a presentation of what we experienced at the hospital and our thoughts about the medical field after we experienced it first hand. We will provide photos from our experience so people can get a good idea of what we went through during the month as a whole.
I wanted to do a senior project because once the opportunity presented itself to me I could not prevent myself from passing it up. I truly feel that the month of my senior project will change my life. I have been at Lovett since Kindergarten and I believe that this experience will be a perfect way to close my amazing years at Lovett. We hope that you enjoy our final products of what we believe will be an experience that will change our lives!
